How FARS supports families


The face-to-face services offered by FARS are currently closed.

Based on FARS' experience many Farsi family members living with an addict find themselves angry, frustrated or hurt.
Not knowing how to help a loved one with their addiction often leads to family members feeling equally ill.
Addiction is commonly referred to as a family disease for family members tend to get affected and suffer as much as the using addict in their family.
Often family members want to help their loved ones but don't know what to do. Or, usually they try a variety of means to stop the addict using only to realize all their efforts has been a waste.This in turn leads family members to disappointment, denial, anger or depression. To stop the cycle of addiction, family members can play a crucial role.
Learning how to deal with an addict in the family and how to take care of yourselves, can not only encourage the addict into recovery but also enhance your quality of life.

FARS endeavors to provide you with the necessary information and support to help yourself and your loved one's affected by addiction.

Free and Confidential services offered to Family members:


  • 1- Call our Free phone confidential helpline to discuss your drug and or alcohol related concerns. 08000 38 31 30.

  • 2 - Arrange to meet with a member of our team at a convenient location near you to find out about family support groups or 12 step Family meetings in your area. 1 session within London.

  • 3 - Our extensive Farsi / English website provides you with a range of professional information and suggestions on how to deal with an addict in the family and how to help yourself.

The Family Members section on our website is divided into 4 sections to provide you with a range of information on how to help yourself or your loved one affected by addiction:

  1. Understanding the addict - provides insight on why people use drugs and what family members can do to help a loved one overcome addiction.

  2. Information & Suggestions - provides useful information for family members living with an addict. In addition professional suggestions is given on how family members can take care of themselves.

  3. Articles & Research - provides evidence on how and why addiction can effect family members.

  4. Family Stories - real stories by family members living with an addict are told for your sense of identification and hope.
